UX Research & Design practice of Fergus Roche
I help organisations to innovate and think strategically. I do this through focusing on design and optimisation of the user experience(UX); across all user touch-points and channels.
I’ve worked in digital for nearly 15 years. I started my education at lastminute.com pre-IPO. Since then, I’ve had the good fortune to work with a diverse range of clients across many sectors, both client-side & at some of the top UK digital agencies making design user-centered & research driven. Also, I've run two Experience Design practices, Joylab which specialises in designing omni-channel experiences and services plus my own consultancy here, One Big Field. Across industries, I'm best known for three things:
More and more organisations are seeing the benefit of UX-lead innovation, from product and service development to funded R&D projects. I often run pop-up labs (1 week) interventions through to longer-term research (six-months) to help organisations innovate, change and stay relevant.
I have developed an Agile-based approach to leading UX, through embedded research, rapid prototyping and applying a guerilla method to design.
ASKING THE HARD QUESTIONS
This is the view of people I work with – I ask the right questions. Often, these are the hard ones. Being the 'expert' and doing 'great UX' is NOT just relying on your experience. It's looking at my clients data, learning anew about the target users (so I don't design for me). And critically it's about spending time with the stakeholders and understanding and what they're really after. I believe firmly in research-driven solutions.
